Recently I had the pleasure working with State Police and Department of Public Safety personnel in my role as legislative liaison for the Caddo Parish DA's office to draft amendments to HB 638. The amendments will make enforcement of our uninsured motorist and failure to appear laws more effective and efficient. The amendments do NOT create or raise any taxes or fees, but the fiscal affect will be a windfall for law-abiding taxpayers of Louisiana. According to the Legislative Fiscal Office, the amendments could produce $178 million this year and up to $60 million in recurring revenue, which will fund law enforcement and can also be used to ensure funding for necessary needs such as the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, other higher education priorities, and reducing the state's backlog of transportation projects.
We don't need new taxes. We just need new ideas, a fresh perspective. That's why I'm running for State Senate.
